Dont Click It...

Posted by redthil On 12/17/2008 05:37:00 PM

  • How hard is it to break with our clicking habits?
  • What happens, if we remove the essential element of navigation from an interface, which we are accustomed to?
  • Does it change our behavior of navigation?
  • Is this change for good or for bad?
  • What do we gain from it?
  • Do we miss the Click at all?
  • Does this have any influence on our perception of the interface?
  • Is clicking really rooted that deeply in us, that we can not resist it?

The answers are not just given to you, but you answer them for yourself, based on the experiences you will make. Here is a website which provides answers to all the above questions...Click on the below picture (for the second last time) to enjoy a damn new experience, of a new interface.

Here are few things which i liked most in that site:
> Understand - MouseWrap
> Learn - The Click Ergonomy
> Explore ---- All the subdivisions

In short, i liked every aspect of that site. Of Course, i have to mention about the Autopilot - tracks all your mouse movements, and it plays it back for you. Just view a demo of how crazy you are in moving your mouse...

I come across lot of lists these days. So, here is one list like that...

Being so much used to Orkut, there is one part in the home page which i never missed to notice. Though i don't exactly believe those, its very good when you read in the morning, as the first thing. I indeed feel good on reading this at the least.

3. Don't let friends impose on you. Work calmly and silently
4. Time is the wisest counselor
5. You will travel to many places
6. Prejudice is opinion without judgement
7. The secret of creativity is knowing how to hide your sources
8. Self-confindence is the first requisite to great undertakings
9. Dance is the hidden language of the soul
10. To accomplish great things, we must dream as well as act
11. Total absence of humor renders life impossible
12. Hope is necessary in every condition
13. The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong
14. A day without laughter is a day wasted
15. Love conquers all
16. A promise made is a debt unpaid
17. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication
18. The time is right to make new friends
19. Smile. That's all

How about Aerobics?????

Posted by redthil On 12/02/2008 08:23:00 PM

Wondering what this post is about??? Ya.. This one also falls under the category like these ones.

If i remember it correctly (u know that i have poor memory), this is the same question which arose in my mind, last Tuesday morning, when i woke up from bed. "Why not?" - i answered to myself, as usual.

Though i decided so easily, i just like that didn't want to waste money. i have already heard from few of my friends that this is really worth, if we do it regularly (which is not a big deal at all). And also came to know recently from one of my friend that this is indeed useful. So, no second thoughts whether to go or not.

But when to go was the main question. As per the office timings at that time, it was like impossible to squeeze that into my daily schedule. Though i had ample amount of time in the morning, as my day officially starts at 11am, doing such kind of activity in the morning may make me tired for the whole day, which i don't want. And about evening, though my day officially ends at 8pm, ___ (i think you can fill that blank with ease). So, going in the evening is ruled-out. The only option is to change my official timings, which is little tough solution, but a possible one. And thanks to my manager, who didn't deny my request and my colleague, who agreed to swap with me in the shift.

Then comes where to go... Having been here in BTM some 18 months ago, i pretty much knew each n every place here. Though there are about 3 health care centres where aerobics is there, i decided to go with one due to strong recommendation of one of my friend here. Went there, enquired about the classes there, found it gud n flexible timings and got the answer for my third question.

Having got answers for 3 of my questions, whatelse is needed... yes.. me joined Aerobics yesterday, just went there, paid my this month fee, warned that i'll be coming there today :) . So, i went there today. My first feedback for today's class is "Awesome". didnt know how one hour passed. just went into action right from the first minute. feeling really good. And will definitely go there regularly.

Ha Ha Ha... just got new Label for these kinda stuffs... "Casually Crazy".. how is it???

Now Emergency Has New Number - 108 ...

Posted by redthil On 11/14/2008 09:38:00 AM

Bangalore: On November 2nd, 2008, The Karnataka state government, in partnership with Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), a not-for-profit organisation from Hyderabad, has launched a 24-hour free emergency response service -Arogya Kavacha - to help people in emergency, be it medical, police or fire-related. This was launched by former President of India, A.P.J Abdul Kalam. People can dial 108 without any prefix or suffix from any phone (landline or mobile) and seek help. Without much of xtra story, here are more details...

What is new in 1-0-8???

1-0-8 is a toll-free number and is dialed:
  • To save a life
  • To report a crime in progress
  • To report a fire

1-0-8 Emergency Response Service is a 24X7 emergency service for medical, police and fire emergencies. It is a free service for any Emergencies involving people. The service is available for the entire state of Andhra Pradesh ,Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Goa ,Chennai, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Assam.

  • It a 24x7 emergency service.
  • Toll Free number accessible from landline or mobile
  • Emergency help will reach you in an average of 18 minutes
  • Call 1-0-8 for all emergencies (Medical, Police and Fire)

Under what situations you can dial 108?

Medical Emergencies:
Serious Injuries, Cardiac arrests ,Stroke, Respiratory, Diabetics, Maternal/Neonatal/Pediatric, Epilepsy, Unconsciousness, Animal bites, High Fever, Infections

Police Emergencies:
Robbery / Theft / Burglary, Street Fights, Property Conflicts, Self - inflicted injuries / Attempted suicides , Theft, Fighting, Public Nuisance, Missing, Kidnappings, Traffic Problems ( Traffic Jams or Rallies, raasta rokos etc ), Forceful actions, riots etc

Fire Emergencies:
Burns, Fire breakouts, Industrial fire hazards

Do not call 1-0-8 if there is no ‘serious people emergency’. It is not a number for enquiry or information gathering. Do not play around by dialing 1-0-8 as a joke. Otherwise a call in real emergency could be blocked and a life could be lost. If you happen to call 1-0-8 by accident then do not hang up until the officer asks you to do so.

State-of-the-art vehicles:

Now, all you need to do in case of an emergency, like ill health, accidents or fire, is to dial 108. A fully equipped state-of-the-art ambulance will arrive within 20 minutes in urban areas and 30 minutes in rural areas. The medical staff in the ambulance will not only transport the affected person to hospital, but will also provide pre-hospitalisation treatment free of cost.

After collecting the information over phone, a fully equipped ambulance or fire vehicle will be dispatched to the spot. These vehicles have been fitted with Geographical Positioning System and Geographical Indication Systems to help locate the geographical position of the emergency scene. The ambulances have been fitted with medical equipment ranging from defibrillators and ventilators to extrication tools, to handle any emergency.

Explaining the salient features of the project, EMRI CEO Venkat Changavalli said EMRI has already tied-up with various hospitals and nursing homes to provide free hospitalisation for the first 24 hours until the victim is stabilised.

He said EMRI, which is a non-profit organisation, has been founded and funded by Satyam Computers.

How about walking to office???

Posted by redthil On 11/06/2008 09:22:00 PM

yup... this one is something like "klaW ylenoL kraD tnasaelP ehT ..." ... just got up from the bed early today, around 5:30.. it has been looooong time since i got up at that time... from arrival of my new companion, my lappy, i have never got up at that time... yesterday i went to sleep early, as i came early from office, at 10pm itself. So i didnt bring my office laptop with me to home. As i got up from bed, i just thought, why cant we go to office by walk?? i dont have to carry my bag also, since the office laptop is there in office, which is very rare thing to happen these days. Ok.. i'm goin to do that... freshed up, played games for 30 mins, and started walking from home. Did i mention that my office is around 10kms from my home?? ok.. now i have... started exactly at 6:50am from my home. The climate was not that cold, though it was chill, it turned to normal by 7:30 itself.. at that time i was near the Ejipura signal in Intermediate Ring Road.

I was so happy that i dont have to wait for the signal to turn green... wowie... overtaking all the vehicles which were standing still at the signal, i reached the all time busy Sony world signal.... there too it was heavy traffic.. surprisingly i met one of my college junior, just thought i have seen that face somewhere, but hesitated to go n ask as if its not her, then the scene would completely change. but as i said, surprisingly, she came forward, and little chat, just a little break there in otherwise a continous non-stop walk.

At around 8am, i reached madiwala. then i remembered to book ticket to my next week plan to go to hyd. went to manish travels, just asked when is the first volvo bus to hyd from bangalore, he said at 6:30, ok.. book i told, got my ticket booked, just 2 mins pit-stop there, continued my walk... thru maruthi nagar, BTM , thru the park once i used to go for walking, thru the plrk in which we played shuttle, thru the playground once we played cricket, i reached my office, which is there above shopperstop near jayadeva hospital, at around 8:50 am.. a non-stop 2 hour 10km walk to office.. was a gud experience.

But if you ask me whether i'll do this again, my immediate answer would be "NO" without any doubt, caz of two reasons:
1. i would be happy in wasting 2 hours of my time in any-other way than in this way.
2. On serious note, i dont want to voluntarily put myself exposed to a non-stop 2 hour 10km pollution.

Chandrayaan 1 - latest updates...

Posted by redthil On 11/01/2008 11:49:00 AM

You might have watched lifting off into the beautiful blue sky a week ago. And you might be hearing about the men behind the scenes thru forwards and news channels. I'm so glad these Indian News channels allot few of their precious seconds in giving some updates (not so often though) on this very special India's Moon Mission, among its breaking news on Great Khali, Terror Strikes, TV Dance/Reality shows review and most prominently - profitable Ads (i'm so sick of watching these news channels thesedays). I missed to add one more category, Inside Politics... Oops!!! I forgot that this post is not about those news channels. Let me add some meaning to the Title of this post:

Latest News:

First latest update is, it has been ___________ (you can fill the blank with the value showing in the count-up timer below the Heading of this page) since the launch of Chandrayaan 1.

Secondly, Chandrayaan 1 Camera Tested... ISRO has released the first pics from the historic space craft yesterday - Oct 31, 2008.

Here is what ISRO has got to say about the current position of Chandrayaan 1...

It may be recalled that the 1380 kg Chandrayaan-1 was successfully launched into an initial elliptical orbit around the Earth by PSLV-C11 on October 22, 2008. This was followed by four orbit raising manoeuvres, which together raised Chandrayaan-1’s orbit to a much higher altitude. The spacecraft is now circling the Earth in an orbit whose apogee (farthest point to Earth) lies at 267,000 km (Two lakh sixty seven thousand km) and perigee (nearest point to Earth) at 465 km. In this orbit, Chandrayaan-1 takes about six days to go round the Earth once. The spacecraft performance is being continuously monitored and is normal.

The Terrain Mapping camera (TMC) on board Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft was successfully operated on October 29, 2008 through a series of commands issued from the Spacecraft Control Centre of ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) at Bangalore. Analysis of the first imagery received by the Indian Deep Space Network (IDSN) at Byalalu and later processed by Indian Space Science Data Centre (ISSDC) confirms excellent performance of the camera. The first imagery (image 1) taken at 8:00 am IST from a height of 9,000 km shows the Northern coast of Australia while the other (image 2) taken at 12:30 pm from a height of 70,000 km shows Australia’s Southern Coast. TMC is one of the eleven scientific instruments (payloads) of Chandrayaan-1. The camera can take black and white pictures of an object by recording the visible light reflected from it. The instrument has a resolution of about 5 metres. Besides TMC, the other four Indian payloads of Chandrayaan-1 are the Hyper spectral Imager (HySI), Lunar Laser Ranging Instrument (LLRI), High Energy X-ray Spectrometer (HEX) and the Moon Impact Probe (MIP). The other six payloads of Chandrayaan-1 are from abroad.

"Which came first, the chicken or the Egg?" - Happy World Egg Day...

Posted by redthil On 10/10/2008 12:25:00 AM

Bangalore, Friday, 10Oct08: Today is one of my favorite day in the calendar. Yes. u're absolutely right. Today is World Egg Day. World Egg Day was established at the IEC Vienna 1996 conference when it was decided to celebrate World Egg Day on the second Friday in October each year. To encourage folks to eat more eggs, the clever trade association has even come up with this World Egg Day (Oct. 10) and some new recipes on its Web site for low-cost, high-protein, internationally inspired dishes that even kids will eat — or so they say.

For centuries, eggs have played a major role in feeding families around the globe. They are an unbeatable package when it comes to versatility and top-quality protein at a very affordable price. And they are also an excellent source of choline, essential in memory and brain development. When you factor in convenience and terrific taste, there is just no competition. The proteins contained within eggs , have a key role to play in disease prevention and contribute to well being in latter life, particularly in relation to eyesight (avoiding macular degeneration).

World Egg Day celebrates and promotes the benefits of eggs. It is truely a world, or international, celebration, from China and New Zealand, to Great Britain and Mexico.

This is no yolk. Eggs certainly are what they are cracked up to be. Aside from high cholesterol, eggs are a healthy food. High in nutrition, and low in fat, people all over the world enjoy eggs. And, they celebrate eggs on this day.

1,000 Year old Eggs! Now here's a yummy treat. Buried in the ground for a period of time, Thousand Year Old Eggs are a real treat in China

Thousand Year Old Eggs: Here's a quick and easy recipe: Take a dozen or so duck eggs and add a couple of ingredients, including ashes. Then, bury them in the ground(a crock filled with soil) for a thousand years or so(the recipe calls for 100 days). Then, dig them up and munch away. Both the white and yolk will have a grayish color. The yolk will have a green hue or tint. Some find the grayish green yolk unattractive, but they taste .Thousand year eggs are common menu items. Did you ever wonder how forecasters could reasonably predict demand one thousand years in advance?

Don't have egg on your face, by forgetting this special day. We can think of a dozen reasons to enjoy World Egg Day to the fullest. We know eggs-actly how people begin this special day.... with eggs for breakfast. And, there's ohh so much more you can do with them.

Ways to celebrate World Egg Day:

  • First and foremost, eat some eggs today. You can have them for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
  • Learn more about the health benefits of eggs.
  • Hold a debate with the question: "Which came first, the chicken or the Egg?"
  • Have an Egg Hunt. Who says egg hunts are only at Easter!? More on Egg Hunts.
  • Have an Egg throwing contest. It's a big sport in Great Britain.
  • Send Greeting Cards to family and friends.
  • Read an eggy story to your child. Would suggest reading "The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg". (And believe me when i say, this story is not just for kids.. )
  • Decorate some eggs.
  • Find out how many things are made of, or contain eggs. You might be surprised.

To celebrate World Egg Day, Howard Helmer, who holds the Guiness record as World's Fastest Omelet Maker, offers the following tips for getting more flavorful mileage out of that carton of eggs.

* Rediscover the spice rack: Spice up everyday egg dishes like omelets, quiches, frittatas and more with curry for Indian spice, chile and cumin for Mexican or Southwestern heat, or ginger to experience Thai flavor.

* Give your fare an Asian flair: Add soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, duck sauce or ginger to infuse scrambled eggs with new flavors.

* Adios, niños: Send kids to school with an on-the-go Mexican-inspired breakfast by rolling scrambled eggs, black beans, salsa and low-fat cheese into a tortilla.

* Elevate your leftovers: Take leftovers to a new level by adding them to egg dishes like scrambled eggs, omelets, quiches and frittatas. Almost any food can be added to eggs — from last night's Asian stir fry to leftover taco fixings.

Wish you a Happy Married Life Sanjeev..

Posted by redthil On 10/09/2008 01:03:00 AM

Bangalore, 08Oct08: Sanjeev is our DBA Team-mate. He's getting married tomorrow. So we all went for his reception at Tumkur today. We officially called our day off at 5pm in the evening. This is very very early and very rare thing to happen in our Team. we were nine of us (as Pradeep n Venkata is in vacation and Nagaraja had some personal work). Purnima, Raja, Me n Shibu went in Rao's Car and Prasoon, Sasi and Vishal went in Anand's Car. We went thru Yashwantpur from office. But just to cross yashwantpur itself, it took around 1 and half hours. Heavy Traffic as it was long holiday weekend. Adding to that is the bad road, which made driving little more tiresome one, though i was not driving (i think you already knew that i drive only F1 cars.. that too only McLaren Cars.. :) ). So it took almost 3 and half hours to reach Tumkur

We then went to see the Bride n Bridegroom, busy in giving pose for the photo, as usual. And there was a big queue to give the gift and take snap with the couple. We thought we have to wait atleast 1 hour to get a chance to reach the stage. But we got direct pass from the BrideGroom to go directly to the stage, without standing in the queue. Thanks to Sanjeev. We gave the gift and posed for the group photo with the new couple. We then had dinner (as usual, as i'm in diet, had only little food.. ;) ) and then started back to banglore at around 10pm. Though the road was in the same condition, the traffic was far far better than the onward journey. So, reached our office at around 11:30pm, booked cab for 12 and left office. I dedicate this post to Rao, for his fantastic driving and Anand too. Thanks a Ton Rao and Anand.

Again, Best wishes to the newly wed couple for a Happy Married Life...

Can't Smile Without You....

Posted by redthil On 10/06/2008 12:31:00 PM

I just heard this song for the first time yesterday in HellBoy2. What does this song has to do in an demon movie? It does not differentiate whether its humans/demons/animals (/plants***). It just conquers. This beautiful song is from Barry Manilow. Here is the lyrics:

You know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile without you

You came along just like a song
And brightened my day
Who would have believed that you were part of a dream
Now it all seems light years away

And now you know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything

You see I feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile

Now some people say happiness
takes so very long to find
Well, I'm finding it hard
leaving your love behind me

And you see I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel glad when you're glad
I feel sad when you're sad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile without you...

Wondering what the subject is??? Dont waste any of your precious time in decoding that. Imagine like you are reading English, written in Arabic style i.e. Just read from right 2 left. Wondering whether i had gone MAD? Not really... Having read the subject (in the way it has to be read), i'm no way referring "The journey of Life". This is all about the 5km walk from Koramangala to Indranagar tonight. Here's how it happened:

Bangalore, Sunday, October 5, 2008: Me, with four of my other friends (ex-colleagues), went to HellBoy 2 @ PVR, 5.50pm show. After which we had dinner at Anjappar - A Chettinad Restaurant in Koramangala. Dinner was awesome, as usual. Had my favorite "Egg Appam with Poondu Kolambu" and few other varieties. I had only a little food (As you are already aware that i'm in DIET). Few Chit-Chats and when i saw my watch, the hour hand already crossed 300Degrees. So, i said its getting late and i have to leave , having the fact that bus frequency will become close to nil as it gets late in mind. One of my friend funnly asked "Going by walk???". And me, without even letting him to complete that question, answered "no chance. bus-stop is right there only" (pointing to the location where the bus-stop is, which is just 100mts away). After i bid adieu to them, as i walked towards the bus-stop, that question flashed in my mind - "Why not doing that?". Then thought "5kms... In late night... Thru that troublesome intermediate ring road... Alone... Someone doing such an act, will surely be MAD. Are you damn sure you're goin to do that?". But it has been years since i walked so long at late night. I remembered those days in college, when we (my hostelmates) go for night show movie on saturday night (as saturday is a free-night i.e. we can come at any time in night). And we walk back to hostel in late night as a group.

"Gone are those Days. I'm going to do it..."- answered myself, took my ear phones, plugged in to my mobile phone, selected "Melodies" in the playlist category and started walking. I pass that part of the route atleast twice a day. So, i knew that route so damn well that i could actually point out which shop will be at which location in that route. Only to discover now that i am wrong. There were lot of things which i have failed to notice in that intermediate ring road, though travelled thru it atleast 200 times, which last only for 3-5mins. Those increase in number of trees, bent posts, unlit lamps, pleasant noise which insects make, lot more... Tonight was unusually Dark. And not much of street lights switched on, thanks to our government (hope this is a move to save electricity. At times, we need to be optimistic u kno...) Not much of vehicles, thanks to the long weekend. Actually, the second one gave me more pros: first - not much of noise pollution, second - not much of air pollution, so that i was able to feel the cold breeze, passing thru my body. And when you see those vehicles emerging far away from you occasionally, it looked as if Bakira , with dark body and bright eyes, is coming to help you. (Effect of Jungle Book movie which i saw this morning). Was grazing thru all the magic events which happened during my college days. Again, Gone are the Days... It was a Lonely, but pleasant half-an-hour walk.

"And I'm not MAD. Just a Simple Crazy Kid."

laptop mode : switched ON

Posted by redthil On 10/05/2008 01:59:00 PM

I'm coming across lot of my friends looking for buying laptops. And every time they ask me for suggestions, its like me telling the same thing (pardon me if i haven't told anything to you) or i couldn't give them their required information in the way they want it. So even after our discussion, their confusion prevails. So, in order to make it simple and have all the info you need if you're a willing to be potential laptop customer, i'm starting this thread.
Let me start with my favorite computer makers - Dell

There are three different product brand in Dell.
> Inspiron > Studio > XPS

as i'm writing this, i just got a doubt on the way i'm putting the details. I think putting it based on the requirements , instead of based on brands and makers, would be more useful. So, here is the change of plan. Here are the details of computers based on your requirements. I'm broadly classifying it as:

1. HomeWork
2. Entertainment
4. Multimedia
3. Gaming

Note: As of now, i'm starting with the Dell products, as i'm little aware of it already. You can watch this space soon for more updates on other manufacturers also. You can click on any of the above Labels for laptops in that category. Though it does not have complete details about each product, i hope this will be an useful starting point for narrowing your search.

HomeWork

This category of laptops has the configurations thru which you can do all your basic stuffs. has minimum configurations. But this requirement is not practical needed these days. I added this category just as a placeholder.

Kung Fu Panda 2 on June 3rd 2011

Posted by redthil On 10/02/2008 09:35:00 AM

DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. yesterday announced that Pandamonium will be back in 2011 when the sequel to its worldwide hit, "Kung Fu Panda" is expected to return to theaters on June 3, 2011. The Company also anticipates releasing the film into IMAX(R) theatres worldwide. The sequel to "Kung Fu Panda," like all DreamWorks Animation feature films starting in 2009, will be produced in stereoscopic 3D technology. "Kung Fu Panda," which has exceeded $215 million in domestic box office and over $411 million in international territories to date, will be released on two-disc DVD and Blu-ray on November 9, 2008 alongside a brand new companion story, "Secrets of the Furious Five."

During its theatrical run, "Kung Fu Panda" has reached over $626 million in worldwide box office to date, making it one of the most successful films of 2008 and DreamWorks Animation's most successful original film ever. The sequel will follow Po, the world's biggest kung fu fan, as he continues his journey as the chosen one who fulfills an ancient prophesy while mastering the art of kung fu.

The sequel to "Kung Fu Panda" will once again star Jack Black, Angelina Jolie and other original cast members and will be directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, head of story on "Kung Fu Panda." It will be produced by Melissa Cobb. Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, who wrote and co-produced the original film, will also be returning.

"We are thrilled to reunite the creative team that made 'Kung Fu Panda' such a global success. Because of their imaginative work, Po's path to heroism proved popular with moviegoers of all ages around the world." - DreamWorks Animation's CEO, Jeffrey Katzenberg

"The story of 'Kung Fu Panda' provided a great introduction to these characters and afforded wonderful opportunities to further expand on the world we created in ancient China. Quite simply, there's more story to tell." - Bill Damaschke, Co-President of Production and President of Live Theatrical,

"We knew it was in the works, but DreamWorks Animation has officially announced that a 3D sequel to Kung Fu Panda will hit digital theaters and IMAX theatres on June 3rd 2011.The sequel will follow Po, “the world’s biggest kung fu fan, as he continues his journey as the chosen one who fulfills an ancient prophesy while mastering the art of kung fu.” Jack Black and Angelina Jolie have both signed on to return, with “other original cast members” to be announced (my guess is that everyone important will be back for the sequel). Screenwriters/producers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger are also back for part 2." - slashfilm.com

"Why so serious?"

Batman: The Dark Knight - Exceeded most of my expectations. And almost all the credit goes to the awesome performance by Heath Ledger as "The Joker". The Joker's scruffy and grungy make-up is intended as a reflection of his "edgy" character. What a performance by him. Amazing... Has become my most fav actor and movie character. but sad to know that there wont be any more movies from him.

In his penultimate film performance, Ledger plays the Joker in The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan, the sequel to the 2005 film Batman Begins, first released, in Australia, on 16 July 2008, nearly six months after his death. While still working on the film, in London, Ledger told Sarah Lyall, in their interview published in the New York Times on 4 November 2007, that he viewed The Dark Knight's Joker as a "psychopathic, mass murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy." To prepare for the role, Ledger told Empire, "I sat around in a hotel room in London for about a month, locked myself away, formed a little diary and experimented with voices — it was important to try to find a somewhat iconic voice and laugh. I ended up landing more in the realm of a psychopath — someone with very little to no conscience towards his acts"; after reiterating his view of the character as "just an absolute sociopath, a cold-blooded, mass-murdering clown," he added that Nolan had given him "free rein" to create the role, which he found "fun, because there are no real boundaries to what The Joker would say or do. Nothing intimidates him, and everything is a big joke." - Wikipedia

And adding to these were the dialogs/quotes for this character and the way The Joker delivered those were simply incredible. Though The Joker is insane, i would say his quotes makes complete sense, without any doubt. Here are few of my favorite quotes of The Joker:

> I'm a man of simple tastes.

> And I thought my jokes were bad...

> Now I see the funny side. Now I'm always smiling!

> It's a funny world we live in.

> You just couldn't let me go could you?

> This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.

> I won't kill you, because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever.

> Do you wanna know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can't savor all the... little... emotions. In... you see, in their last moments, people show you who they really are. So in a way, I know your friends better than you ever did. Would you like to know which of them were cowards?

> You'see, madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little...push.

> The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules.

> See, I'm not a monster...I'm just ahead of the curve.

> If you're good at something, never do it for free.

>
You have nothing, nothing to threaten me with. Nothing to do with all your strength.

> I don't want to kill you! What would I do without you? Go back to ripping off mob dealers? No, no, you... you complete me.

> Never start with the head, the victim gets all fuzzy.

> This town deserves a better class of criminal... and I'm gonna give it to them.

> It's not about money... it's about sending a message. Everything burns!

> Does it depress you, ... To know just how alone you really are?

> Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it. You know, I just do things.

> You know, they're schemers. Schemers trying to control their worlds. I'm not a schemer. I try to show the schemers how pathetic their attempts to control things really are.

> Nobody panics when things go according to plan. Even if the plan is horrifying. If tomorrow I tell the press that like a gang banger will get shot, or a truckload of soldiers will be blown up, nobody panics, because it's all, part of the plan. But when I say that one little old mayor will die, well then everyone loses their minds!

> Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos. I'm an agent of chaos. Oh, and you know the thing about chaos? It's fair.

> You've changed things... forever. There's no going back. See, to them, you're just a freak... like me!

And my most fav of all...

"Let’s put a smile on that face!" And..... Why so serious?

"Without giving anything away, this is an epic film (and trust me: based on the sheer size and scope of the visuals and storytelling, that’s not an overstatement). It’s the “Godfather II” of comic book films and three times more earnest than “Batman Begins” (and f**k, was that an earnest film). Easily the most adult comic book film ever made. Heath Ledger didn’t so much give a performance as he disappeared completely into the role; I know I’m not the first to suggest this, but he’ll likely get at least an Oscar nod (if not the win) for Best Supporting Actor. F**king flick’s nearly three hours long and only leaves you wanting more (in a great way). I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed by it. Nolan and crew have created something close to a masterpiece."- Kevin Smith.

Hence Proved - Murphy's Laws...

Posted by redthil On 9/20/2008 09:16:00 PM

I believe most of you have heard about the "Murphy's Laws". (if not you can know little here). The most famous one being "If anything can go wrong, it will". This law holds good in all conditions and at all time. There'll be lot of situations in our daily life, where this law gets proved over and over again. Here are the two scenarios which i faced in recent days which also proves that those laws are absolutely right.
The first one which happened last week is the reason for my previous post. The procedure for configuring new router is soooooo simple that even a layman can do it perfectly without any issues. But there comes the power of Murphy's Law. Everthing went fine till i the power to the router got interrupted unexpectedly, when i was trying to remove the mobile charger (which has no connection with the router. not even the router adapter and my mobile charger were connected in the same power board). Thats it. just 1 second of power outage to the router at the crucial moment (when the router basic firmware was getting upgraded) caused so much of issues that, i decided at one point of time to dump this router (btw, the cost of that router was Rs. 2500 :( ) and get new one. But we cant leave it so easily right (That thought of dumping it came after 2 hours of struggle to get the router up and running). Another 1.5hrs of struggle, there comes the router alive again.
Second one is even more interesting and very critical. This one happened when i was taking "Workshop Training to All India Oracle Accelerators Partners". They were group of 30, sitting in a conference room in gurgoan. So, this DBA workshop was thru online web conference. Me and my team-mate, along with my manager were in one of conf rooms here. My part in the workshop is to walk thru the steps of installing OBA instance with demo of the same. Everything was going fine from starting. After 10 mins, there was a sudden problem in network connection for us, that too when i was taking training for the first time for someone outside Oracle (Note: They have paid huge sum for taking this training. So you can imagine the importance of this training). Thats it. I was thinking that i screwed the whole training. We couldnt find any reasons for that loss of network. My team-mate, who is sitting next to me, has no issues in network. Got relaxed when my manager told me that even when the network is lost, the online web conf will be active for 10 mins, so i just continued the training. And to our relief, it got restored in the next minute. But that one minute, was like hell.

Only from these incidents i found that though this law seems to be not doing good at first glance, It really does good thing for us. If not that time, you wont get any other oppurtunity to learn to tackle those situations or find perfect solution for the problems. Net-Net, Never Ever think that you are in bad situation. Change the way of looking at it as the perfect oppurtunity to learn. As you pass those hurdles, you are that close to reach your goal.

Power LED blinks every second in NetGear Router

Posted by redthil On 9/19/2008 11:51:00 PM

Oops.... if the title matches your search, then i feel really bad for your situation. Because this is the worst thing that you can imagine and the least scenario which you expect to happen to your costly router. But dont panic. Here's a simple and easy steps for overcoming that problem. I have tried to put down the steps in most elaborate and sequential manner, as i couldnt find such step-by-step procedure anywhere to solve this problem (if you know any, please dont hesitate to include it in comments).

Product:
I have WGR614v9 Wireless Router with me. So, the following steps are tried and tested in WGR614 Router Family. But please note that this is applicable to all the latest Netgear Router Families. You can find your Router Product Version on the bottom label of your router.

Symptoms:
Your router is not working. It occurs mostly after upgrading router to latest version. And you find that the Power LED blinks every second.

Cause:
Your router firmware is corrupt. (Note: Firmware - is a computer program that is embedded in a hardware device) The major possibility for this to happen is when power supply is cut down while the router is getting upgraded to the latest version i.e. while firmware in your router is upgrading. As the upgradation of firmware takes few minutes, its always advised to make sure that the power supply to the router wont get interrupted during that time (max 5 mins).

Solution:
Now lets come to your current situation i.e. Power LED is blinking. Firmware got corrupted somehow. Here are the very simple steps to solve this problem:

1. Download the latest firmware.
When you're upgrading the firmware automatically while starting the router, then it might have already downloaded the latest version. If so, locate that file. The filename looks like this "WGR614v9-V1.1.0.19.chk"
If the file is not there, you can download the latest firmware by choosing your router product family here. (for downloading, you can connect your computer directly to your modem for direct internet connection). Since the supported firmware versions are of GNU General Public License "GPL", you can also get the code for those here. (Note: Please refrain from using unsupported firmwares like Tomato, etc. , which will lead you to more troubles , like WAP/WAP2 security cant be used, though they solve this problem.

2. Download TFPT Client.
Though your firmware is corrupt, the good news is that there's a TFTP server running on your router. This enables us to manually push the proper firmware to the router. For this purpose, you need to have TFTP client on your machine. There are lot of free/trial softwares which provides you tftp client, like FTPrush, WinAgents, etc. , I used and will recommend Tftpd32 for first time users. You can download the software here and install it in your machine.

3. Connect your computer to the router.
Now you can disconnect direct connection to the modem and connect the cable to any one of the slots at the back of your router. (Note: You can't use wireless means for upgrading the router.) you'll need the wired connection between your system and the router.

4. Change your computer's ip address to static one.
The default id address for your router is 192.168.1.1, in other words, your router runs the tftp server in the mentioned address. The present setting for your computer will be "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically", since you were connected to internet. So, change it to static address by following the navigation "Start > Control Panel > Network Connections", right click on "Local Area Connection", click on "Properties", under General tab, select "Internet Protocol [TCP/IP]", click on "Properties" button, select "Use the following IP address" radio button, enter the values for IP Address: 182.168.1.2, Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1, select "Use the following DNS server addresses", enter the values for Preferred DNS server:192.168.1.1, Alternate DNS server:[leave it blank], click OK button in all the open windows for saving the settings.

Verify your settings by giving "ipconfig" in the command prompt, which should display the ipaddress as "192.168.1.2". Also verify the connection to the router by giving "ping 192.168.1.1" in cmd prompt, for which you should get successfull reply.

5. Upload the new firmware using tftp
Launch your tftp client using the navigation "Start > All Programs > Tftp32 > Tftp32". Click on the "Tftp Client" tab, and enter the values for Host: "192.168.1.1", Port:"69", for the Local File value: browse and select the latest firmware file which we downloaded in Step 1, and Click on "Put" button. The transfer may take from few seconds to few mins. Once the file is uploaded to the router, it will take 2 to 5 mins for the router to get updated. Still if your Power LED does not stop blinking, then try disconnecting the power supply and connect it again. Now you'll see the Power LED in ON state (instead of blinking state).

Congrats.... Thats it. You have successfully crossed the hurdle.

Now you can connect the router with your modem, make the settings of your computer to "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" by following the same process mentioned in Step 4, to allow your computer to connect automatically. Verify your internet connection now.

Wonderful Wonderla

Posted by redthil On 9/08/2008 04:51:00 PM

Yesterday i went to Wonderla. This is not my first visit to that place. May be fourth or fifth time. But still the eagerness to go there has not diminished, not even 0.0000001%. And Wonderla has never failed to meet the expectation. Thats a very gud place to be together with friends all thru the day. Thats the main reason i would say for going there, having fun together with friends. This gives a huge break from our routine daily life. This time, we were 9 of us. We're not from the same company. But this group is a fun loving group, always awaiting for adventures. Last time we went to River Rafting & Trekking near kudremukh. (the post related to that trip is under construction. you can expect it to be published very soon. will update here with that link - "Trekking & River Rafting... - Day One"). When we were on our way back, we already decided that our next trip will be to Wonderla. Though the date was fixed long back, it was just yes/no till saturday. Saturday morning is when Thiagarajan, our Gang CEO, decided and finally said "Yes. We're goin on sunday". So, all set for the trip by sturday evening. We went there in bikes - Deepak & Pradeep , Lakshmi & Prathiba , Vijay & Nirmal, Harsha & Me, and Thiagarajan.

Adding to being together is the thrilling, fun filled rides that the wonderla offers you. Each one is class of its own. No two rides are similar and you wont have any excuses to skip any of the ride, be it dry or water rides. We all had fun the whole day. Starting from Maverick, Y-Scream, Hurricane, Insanity, net walk, lazy river,  termite train, wave pool, water rides etc till the WonderSplash - everything was just amazing. Me and Harsha were challenging each other in all the rides and had fun always. If you ask me the rides which makes me coming to wonderla again n again, i would value that one question to 100 marks, caz its that difficult. but my most fav one is the insane "Insanity". It is completely fun, right from the start, as we wont have any idea which direction we'll be the next second. (Me and Harsha went this ride thrice continously.) And Maverick will be the second most fav one, which is followed by Y-Scream and all water sports. i think i forgot to mention that "Giant Wheel".. though this is not that much thrilling, as it moves in snail pace, it gives a very gud view of the entire location and we feel like we're floating on top of everything nearby. (we didnt go for this one this time, as it was so dark in the sky and we have to reach the city before it starts raining).

After all the fun we had, we started at around 6:15pm from wonderla. And reached my place around 7:45pm. I thank each and every one for making this wonderful trip a memorable one, specially to Thiagarajan for planning this, Last but not the least, to Harsha, for painfully having me as the pillion, all thru the way. Great fun ppl. Will meet you soon at our next trip.
