"Which came first, the chicken or the Egg?" - Happy World Egg Day...

Posted by redthil On 10/10/2008 12:25:00 AM

Bangalore, Friday, 10Oct08: Today is one of my favorite day in the calendar. Yes. u're absolutely right. Today is World Egg Day. World Egg Day was established at the IEC Vienna 1996 conference when it was decided to celebrate World Egg Day on the second Friday in October each year. To encourage folks to eat more eggs, the clever trade association has even come up with this World Egg Day (Oct. 10) and some new recipes on its Web site for low-cost, high-protein, internationally inspired dishes that even kids will eat — or so they say.

For centuries, eggs have played a major role in feeding families around the globe. They are an unbeatable package when it comes to versatility and top-quality protein at a very affordable price. And they are also an excellent source of choline, essential in memory and brain development. When you factor in convenience and terrific taste, there is just no competition. The proteins contained within eggs , have a key role to play in disease prevention and contribute to well being in latter life, particularly in relation to eyesight (avoiding macular degeneration).

World Egg Day celebrates and promotes the benefits of eggs. It is truely a world, or international, celebration, from China and New Zealand, to Great Britain and Mexico.

This is no yolk. Eggs certainly are what they are cracked up to be. Aside from high cholesterol, eggs are a healthy food. High in nutrition, and low in fat, people all over the world enjoy eggs. And, they celebrate eggs on this day.

1,000 Year old Eggs! Now here's a yummy treat. Buried in the ground for a period of time, Thousand Year Old Eggs are a real treat in China

Thousand Year Old Eggs: Here's a quick and easy recipe: Take a dozen or so duck eggs and add a couple of ingredients, including ashes. Then, bury them in the ground(a crock filled with soil) for a thousand years or so(the recipe calls for 100 days). Then, dig them up and munch away. Both the white and yolk will have a grayish color. The yolk will have a green hue or tint. Some find the grayish green yolk unattractive, but they taste .Thousand year eggs are common menu items. Did you ever wonder how forecasters could reasonably predict demand one thousand years in advance?

Don't have egg on your face, by forgetting this special day. We can think of a dozen reasons to enjoy World Egg Day to the fullest. We know eggs-actly how people begin this special day.... with eggs for breakfast. And, there's ohh so much more you can do with them.

Ways to celebrate World Egg Day:

  • First and foremost, eat some eggs today. You can have them for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
  • Learn more about the health benefits of eggs.
  • Hold a debate with the question: "Which came first, the chicken or the Egg?"
  • Have an Egg Hunt. Who says egg hunts are only at Easter!? More on Egg Hunts.
  • Have an Egg throwing contest. It's a big sport in Great Britain.
  • Send Greeting Cards to family and friends.
  • Read an eggy story to your child. Would suggest reading "The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg". (And believe me when i say, this story is not just for kids.. )
  • Decorate some eggs.
  • Find out how many things are made of, or contain eggs. You might be surprised.

To celebrate World Egg Day, Howard Helmer, who holds the Guiness record as World's Fastest Omelet Maker, offers the following tips for getting more flavorful mileage out of that carton of eggs.

* Rediscover the spice rack: Spice up everyday egg dishes like omelets, quiches, frittatas and more with curry for Indian spice, chile and cumin for Mexican or Southwestern heat, or ginger to experience Thai flavor.

* Give your fare an Asian flair: Add soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, duck sauce or ginger to infuse scrambled eggs with new flavors.

* Adios, niños: Send kids to school with an on-the-go Mexican-inspired breakfast by rolling scrambled eggs, black beans, salsa and low-fat cheese into a tortilla.

* Elevate your leftovers: Take leftovers to a new level by adding them to egg dishes like scrambled eggs, omelets, quiches and frittatas. Almost any food can be added to eggs — from last night's Asian stir fry to leftover taco fixings.

Wish you a Happy Married Life Sanjeev..

Posted by redthil On 10/09/2008 01:03:00 AM

Bangalore, 08Oct08: Sanjeev is our DBA Team-mate. He's getting married tomorrow. So we all went for his reception at Tumkur today. We officially called our day off at 5pm in the evening. This is very very early and very rare thing to happen in our Team. we were nine of us (as Pradeep n Venkata is in vacation and Nagaraja had some personal work). Purnima, Raja, Me n Shibu went in Rao's Car and Prasoon, Sasi and Vishal went in Anand's Car. We went thru Yashwantpur from office. But just to cross yashwantpur itself, it took around 1 and half hours. Heavy Traffic as it was long holiday weekend. Adding to that is the bad road, which made driving little more tiresome one, though i was not driving (i think you already knew that i drive only F1 cars.. that too only McLaren Cars.. :) ). So it took almost 3 and half hours to reach Tumkur

We then went to see the Bride n Bridegroom, busy in giving pose for the photo, as usual. And there was a big queue to give the gift and take snap with the couple. We thought we have to wait atleast 1 hour to get a chance to reach the stage. But we got direct pass from the BrideGroom to go directly to the stage, without standing in the queue. Thanks to Sanjeev. We gave the gift and posed for the group photo with the new couple. We then had dinner (as usual, as i'm in diet, had only little food.. ;) ) and then started back to banglore at around 10pm. Though the road was in the same condition, the traffic was far far better than the onward journey. So, reached our office at around 11:30pm, booked cab for 12 and left office. I dedicate this post to Rao, for his fantastic driving and Anand too. Thanks a Ton Rao and Anand.

Again, Best wishes to the newly wed couple for a Happy Married Life...

Can't Smile Without You....

Posted by redthil On 10/06/2008 12:31:00 PM

I just heard this song for the first time yesterday in HellBoy2. What does this song has to do in an demon movie? It does not differentiate whether its humans/demons/animals (/plants***). It just conquers. This beautiful song is from Barry Manilow. Here is the lyrics:

You know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile without you

You came along just like a song
And brightened my day
Who would have believed that you were part of a dream
Now it all seems light years away

And now you know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything

You see I feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile

Now some people say happiness
takes so very long to find
Well, I'm finding it hard
leaving your love behind me

And you see I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel glad when you're glad
I feel sad when you're sad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile without you...

Wondering what the subject is??? Dont waste any of your precious time in decoding that. Imagine like you are reading English, written in Arabic style i.e. Just read from right 2 left. Wondering whether i had gone MAD? Not really... Having read the subject (in the way it has to be read), i'm no way referring "The journey of Life". This is all about the 5km walk from Koramangala to Indranagar tonight. Here's how it happened:

Bangalore, Sunday, October 5, 2008: Me, with four of my other friends (ex-colleagues), went to HellBoy 2 @ PVR, 5.50pm show. After which we had dinner at Anjappar - A Chettinad Restaurant in Koramangala. Dinner was awesome, as usual. Had my favorite "Egg Appam with Poondu Kolambu" and few other varieties. I had only a little food (As you are already aware that i'm in DIET). Few Chit-Chats and when i saw my watch, the hour hand already crossed 300Degrees. So, i said its getting late and i have to leave , having the fact that bus frequency will become close to nil as it gets late in mind. One of my friend funnly asked "Going by walk???". And me, without even letting him to complete that question, answered "no chance. bus-stop is right there only" (pointing to the location where the bus-stop is, which is just 100mts away). After i bid adieu to them, as i walked towards the bus-stop, that question flashed in my mind - "Why not doing that?". Then thought "5kms... In late night... Thru that troublesome intermediate ring road... Alone... Someone doing such an act, will surely be MAD. Are you damn sure you're goin to do that?". But it has been years since i walked so long at late night. I remembered those days in college, when we (my hostelmates) go for night show movie on saturday night (as saturday is a free-night i.e. we can come at any time in night). And we walk back to hostel in late night as a group.

"Gone are those Days. I'm going to do it..."- answered myself, took my ear phones, plugged in to my mobile phone, selected "Melodies" in the playlist category and started walking. I pass that part of the route atleast twice a day. So, i knew that route so damn well that i could actually point out which shop will be at which location in that route. Only to discover now that i am wrong. There were lot of things which i have failed to notice in that intermediate ring road, though travelled thru it atleast 200 times, which last only for 3-5mins. Those increase in number of trees, bent posts, unlit lamps, pleasant noise which insects make, lot more... Tonight was unusually Dark. And not much of street lights switched on, thanks to our government (hope this is a move to save electricity. At times, we need to be optimistic u kno...) Not much of vehicles, thanks to the long weekend. Actually, the second one gave me more pros: first - not much of noise pollution, second - not much of air pollution, so that i was able to feel the cold breeze, passing thru my body. And when you see those vehicles emerging far away from you occasionally, it looked as if Bakira , with dark body and bright eyes, is coming to help you. (Effect of Jungle Book movie which i saw this morning). Was grazing thru all the magic events which happened during my college days. Again, Gone are the Days... It was a Lonely, but pleasant half-an-hour walk.

"And I'm not MAD. Just a Simple Crazy Kid."

Kung Fu Panda 2 on June 3rd 2011

Posted by redthil On 10/02/2008 09:35:00 AM

DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. yesterday announced that Pandamonium will be back in 2011 when the sequel to its worldwide hit, "Kung Fu Panda" is expected to return to theaters on June 3, 2011. The Company also anticipates releasing the film into IMAX(R) theatres worldwide. The sequel to "Kung Fu Panda," like all DreamWorks Animation feature films starting in 2009, will be produced in stereoscopic 3D technology. "Kung Fu Panda," which has exceeded $215 million in domestic box office and over $411 million in international territories to date, will be released on two-disc DVD and Blu-ray on November 9, 2008 alongside a brand new companion story, "Secrets of the Furious Five."

During its theatrical run, "Kung Fu Panda" has reached over $626 million in worldwide box office to date, making it one of the most successful films of 2008 and DreamWorks Animation's most successful original film ever. The sequel will follow Po, the world's biggest kung fu fan, as he continues his journey as the chosen one who fulfills an ancient prophesy while mastering the art of kung fu.

The sequel to "Kung Fu Panda" will once again star Jack Black, Angelina Jolie and other original cast members and will be directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, head of story on "Kung Fu Panda." It will be produced by Melissa Cobb. Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, who wrote and co-produced the original film, will also be returning.

"We are thrilled to reunite the creative team that made 'Kung Fu Panda' such a global success. Because of their imaginative work, Po's path to heroism proved popular with moviegoers of all ages around the world." - DreamWorks Animation's CEO, Jeffrey Katzenberg

"The story of 'Kung Fu Panda' provided a great introduction to these characters and afforded wonderful opportunities to further expand on the world we created in ancient China. Quite simply, there's more story to tell." - Bill Damaschke, Co-President of Production and President of Live Theatrical,

"We knew it was in the works, but DreamWorks Animation has officially announced that a 3D sequel to Kung Fu Panda will hit digital theaters and IMAX theatres on June 3rd 2011.The sequel will follow Po, “the world’s biggest kung fu fan, as he continues his journey as the chosen one who fulfills an ancient prophesy while mastering the art of kung fu.” Jack Black and Angelina Jolie have both signed on to return, with “other original cast members” to be announced (my guess is that everyone important will be back for the sequel). Screenwriters/producers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger are also back for part 2." - slashfilm.com

"Why so serious?"

Batman: The Dark Knight - Exceeded most of my expectations. And almost all the credit goes to the awesome performance by Heath Ledger as "The Joker". The Joker's scruffy and grungy make-up is intended as a reflection of his "edgy" character. What a performance by him. Amazing... Has become my most fav actor and movie character. but sad to know that there wont be any more movies from him.

In his penultimate film performance, Ledger plays the Joker in The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan, the sequel to the 2005 film Batman Begins, first released, in Australia, on 16 July 2008, nearly six months after his death. While still working on the film, in London, Ledger told Sarah Lyall, in their interview published in the New York Times on 4 November 2007, that he viewed The Dark Knight's Joker as a "psychopathic, mass murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy." To prepare for the role, Ledger told Empire, "I sat around in a hotel room in London for about a month, locked myself away, formed a little diary and experimented with voices — it was important to try to find a somewhat iconic voice and laugh. I ended up landing more in the realm of a psychopath — someone with very little to no conscience towards his acts"; after reiterating his view of the character as "just an absolute sociopath, a cold-blooded, mass-murdering clown," he added that Nolan had given him "free rein" to create the role, which he found "fun, because there are no real boundaries to what The Joker would say or do. Nothing intimidates him, and everything is a big joke." - Wikipedia

And adding to these were the dialogs/quotes for this character and the way The Joker delivered those were simply incredible. Though The Joker is insane, i would say his quotes makes complete sense, without any doubt. Here are few of my favorite quotes of The Joker:

> I'm a man of simple tastes.

> And I thought my jokes were bad...

> Now I see the funny side. Now I'm always smiling!

> It's a funny world we live in.

> You just couldn't let me go could you?

> This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.

> I won't kill you, because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever.

> Do you wanna know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can't savor all the... little... emotions. In... you see, in their last moments, people show you who they really are. So in a way, I know your friends better than you ever did. Would you like to know which of them were cowards?

> You'see, madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little...push.

> The only sensible way to live in this world is without rules.

> See, I'm not a monster...I'm just ahead of the curve.

> If you're good at something, never do it for free.

>
You have nothing, nothing to threaten me with. Nothing to do with all your strength.

> I don't want to kill you! What would I do without you? Go back to ripping off mob dealers? No, no, you... you complete me.

> Never start with the head, the victim gets all fuzzy.

> This town deserves a better class of criminal... and I'm gonna give it to them.

> It's not about money... it's about sending a message. Everything burns!

> Does it depress you, ... To know just how alone you really are?

> Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it. You know, I just do things.

> You know, they're schemers. Schemers trying to control their worlds. I'm not a schemer. I try to show the schemers how pathetic their attempts to control things really are.

> Nobody panics when things go according to plan. Even if the plan is horrifying. If tomorrow I tell the press that like a gang banger will get shot, or a truckload of soldiers will be blown up, nobody panics, because it's all, part of the plan. But when I say that one little old mayor will die, well then everyone loses their minds!

> Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos. I'm an agent of chaos. Oh, and you know the thing about chaos? It's fair.

> You've changed things... forever. There's no going back. See, to them, you're just a freak... like me!

And my most fav of all...

"Let’s put a smile on that face!" And..... Why so serious?

"Without giving anything away, this is an epic film (and trust me: based on the sheer size and scope of the visuals and storytelling, that’s not an overstatement). It’s the “Godfather II” of comic book films and three times more earnest than “Batman Begins” (and f**k, was that an earnest film). Easily the most adult comic book film ever made. Heath Ledger didn’t so much give a performance as he disappeared completely into the role; I know I’m not the first to suggest this, but he’ll likely get at least an Oscar nod (if not the win) for Best Supporting Actor. F**king flick’s nearly three hours long and only leaves you wanting more (in a great way). I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed by it. Nolan and crew have created something close to a masterpiece."- Kevin Smith.
