how many other things are we missing?

Posted by redthil On 10/28/2009 02:10:00 PM

This is an excerpt from a forward mail, but one, which i felt, is very much happening all around.. hence adding it here...

The scene: Washington D.C. Metro Station on a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about an hour. During that time, approximately two thousand (2,000) people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.

After 3 minutes, a middle-aged man noticed there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried to meet his schedule.

4 minutes: the violinist received his first dollar. A woman threw the money in the till and, without stopping, continued to walk.

6 minutes: a young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.

10 minutes: a 3-year-old boy stopped but his mother tugged him along hurriedly, as the kid looked at the violinist. Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time.

Several other children repeated this action.

Every parent, without exception, forced them to move on.

45 minutes: the musician continues to play. Only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while.

About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace.

He collected $32.

After 1 hour, the musician finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed, no one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the best musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars.

Two days before Joshua Bell sold out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.

This is a real story (hoping so.. but even if its not, i think this is the current situation). Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people's priorities.

The questions rose:

In a commonplace environment, at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?

One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be:

If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments? how many other things are we missing ?

This is the WMX verification file. If you are having problems...

Posted by redthil On 10/23/2009 07:37:00 PM

The exact error which i got:

"This is the WMX verification file. If you are having problems with the WMX verification for your blog please visit http://help.blogger.com/bin/static.py?page=start.cs"

This is how i resolved it:

  • Blogger Dashboard > Settings > Publishing
  • You can see your "BlogSpot Address" (eg:  "http://[redthil].blogspot.com)
  • There are two ways which you can do from this point (i suppose both works):
    • Try dummy "Custom Domain" (this is what i did)
** Click on "Custom Domain" link
** Click on "Switch to advanced settings" link
** In the "Your Domain" textbox, enter the dummy value as "http://[www.redthil.com]"
** Enter the Word Verification, and click on "Save Settings"
** You'll get "Settings Were Saved Successfully" message. (now, when you try accessing your blog with "http://redthil.blogspot.com", it will ask to try to redirect to the dummy website address.)
** Now from the dashboard, come to the Settings > Publishing page, and click on "blogspot.com" link (next to the "Switch to:" value)
** Word Verification again and try to access your blog url (http://redthil.blogspot.com) now. It should be working fine now.
    • Try alternate blogspot address (this one i checked out/read just now, just before publishing this post)
* Change your blog name from SETTING --> Publishing --> Type the new name --> word verification --> save setting then check it out, if you want to change the name again like the last name you made you can. just try it. (source: Blogger Forum)

This is how the events unfolded:

The above two headings were for those who suffers with this issue, and want a direct answer. The following paras explains how all these event unwrapped to come to this solution.

I was just trying to access my blog yesterday (the same one which you're reading now). I was totally shocked when i got an ERROR. And as usual, google was my immediate place to search for this error. Though i got few hits, that too in the Blogger Forum itself, it said that this is known bug in blogger and hence i thought there is way to solve this. On reading the threads in that forum entry, one option mentioned was to create a New Post. and thats the reason for my previous post JLT. Thats the interesting part of this issue. I was able to access these post, by giving the complete url in the address bar.

And that didn't solve the problem. so, back to the drawing board, googling/trying/re-trying... with no fruitfull results, went to bed. Morning was still more shocking, wherein i couldnt even login to my dashboard, but able to access my other blogs (except this one). it was throwing some error and some number, and no result on searching for that error number in Blogger Help too. After some time, i was able to access my dashboard (a big relief) and again started all the "ing"s. After many many many trials, finally what i have mentioned as the first option worked for me. This was the ultimate relief. :)

Got Biggy Biggy Bean Bag

Posted by redthil On 10/11/2009 10:07:00 PM

I had been waiting for getting one such thing for atleast two year.. though had decided to get it long back, i had been postponing it for these many days.. or atleast, lazy enough to go and get one. Even i went to the Capirus Bean Bag shop about one year back. But still, i was not so much convinced to buy one.

Today, i just went out to my fav Oasis Mall, just to breathe some outside air (since this weekend was pretty relaxed weekend, and didn't even step out of my home). On the way, i just had a glance at this Caprius shop, and had a small spark. In next ten minutes, i was at that Bean Bag shop. When i was out of that shop, i made sure that, i have it bought. I bought one XXL Red Bean Bag, and one XXXL Black Bean Bag.

And now i'm writing this post, relaxing on that bean bag.

It has been quite some time!!!!

ya... as the subject line indicates, it has been really quite a looong time since there was any post here..

just was thinking what made me to be away from writing/posting? there were quite few reasons which flashed. First one being, little more iron at the back in work and i dont complain on this one, caz i really luv it ;).

Then comes the question of, what about the time spent at home after work hours? mmm.. this has been recently filled with the small small games in FB like Farmville, Cafe World, etc and other usual browsing stuff. once finished with this, or during doing these itself, i go to bed.

So, what about weekends/holidays, and recently there were lot of long weekends too? ya.. agreed.. but on almost ALL weekends, i somehow was away from the internet or even away from my Xappy. And missed my GF2 for some time too... :( Most of them were going out for trips, where even mobiles are not useful, other than to keep alarm. And one more sad part is, my GF1 has some troubles, well, not with me though. It has become too much sensitive that, even if i touch at any part of her, it considers it as my acceptance, and it accepts too.. (and its always a trouble when you think of something and your GF assumes some other thing u kno..) Apart from these two things, one very happy part was/is, my GF3 is absolutely at her best... soo nice to handle, and i'm spending most of my time with her on these holidays.. little relief on this part, and its good too...

And after all these thing, one major component for this loong time break was Laziness... caz there are lots of post still in draft stage, and me not able to complete those.. which mostly is attributed to my laziness or lack of interest (very little tho..) or change in my view/opinion which contradicts those in the drafts.. will try to post them, try my best, as i cant assure you of all those being promoted to be public post. sometimes, its good for them to be in draft, than as a post...

Whatever it is, will try to make this blog, back as lively as ever.. happy reading and happy blogging too...
